Welcome! I’m Dr. Arela Agako, a registered clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the founder of Trauma Care Psychology. I started Trauma Care with a clear mission: to provide a space where people living with the impact of trauma and other painful past events feel truly understood, cared for, and supported with treatments that work.

My path into psychology has always been guided by a passion for helping individuals and couples navigate the long-lasting effects of trauma, whether from painful life experiences, complex relationships, migration, or intergenerational struggles. Too often, trauma leaves people feeling isolated or misunderstood. Trauma Care Psychology was created to change that; to offer personalized, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care that meets people where they are and supports them in building the life and relationships they want.

I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from McMaster University and advanced training in evidence-based therapies, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My clinical focus includes Complex PTSD, Trauma-Related Difficulties, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), emotion dysregulation, high-conflict relationships, and intergenerational conflict.

In addition, I also support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, perfectionism, OCD, burnout, chronic stress, insomnia, and relationship challenges. My approach combines compassion with scientific integrity. I believe therapy should be both deeply human, personalized and firmly grounded in evidence.

Beyond my clinical practice, my research on emotion regulation has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences. I’ve also been featured in outlets such as Psychology Today, Forbes, and Therapy Tips. In addition to Trauma Care Psychology, I am also the founder of ACMH, and co-founder of the Repair App.

Whether you are carrying the pain of past trauma, struggling with emotional overwhelm, or working through relational conflict, Trauma Care Psychology exists to provide a safe and supportive space for your journey forward.
